Beasts Of No Nation

Beasts of No Nation
In an era of besetting animus and agony
Swamping the waning muscle of existence,
Every word of courage
Lurks with bated breath in the navel of the soul.
Cheer and fear in no love lost
Grapple for primacy among despairing destinies
Repressed in cacophonous screeches of innocence
Unappealing to the itchy ears of illiberal gats
Venerated by famished soldiers of war.
When the cord of brotherhood
Loses its ability to sustain peace,
Honour, like the sun in twilight ebbs
In silent shadows without a fight;
Justice is cold murder of the guilty on the run
And the blameless without a gun
Welcome their end in the assembly of the dead.
