When People Speak Of Love

When people speak of love
They think of a still and starry night
Canopied by the gaze of full moon
Where wind and ocean in unison
Enliven the mood to stir exchanged kisses
From hungry and burning lips,
Burning with passion and desires
Defiant to tunes of reason;
They think of rhymes and rhythms
Whittled when flesh and soul mingle
In the shadows of syrupy sensations
As though a nation was to be spawned.
Rarely do they think of love
In deed and truth:
A simple smile greeting a flaccid frown,
Pampering a heavy heart with silent syllables of care;
A supple shoulder to hold a harried head
From drowning in tempestuous tears
While empathy mildly whispers: all is well.
When people speak of love
They forget a mother and child,
How she puts an infant head
Peacefully to rest on bed
With arms of grace and compassion;
They forget, we forget
That love knows no limit;
It neither detests nor regard as misfit
One with shoes but no legs
Or another with legs but no shoes.
When we speak of love,
We speak in truth and deed
Then will our words find meaning indeed.
