A Sleeping Light

How swiftly has the night come;
Your sound and voice we hear no more;
And for the bitter pang in your last breath,
May the stars lead you to heaven’s shore

I dread your fears may come alive,
And feral tears will gladly flow;
Your joy, our song, your care, all gone;
Your love we’ll take wherever we go.

Should our hearts grow cold and weak,
Who would bid our doubts to stay?
How dark and cruel this night appears
To cage a light and shroud its way

Lord, lead your seed home now to rest
And help our faith to stay awake;
A light does sleep among the dead
To soon be seen when dawn shall break.
