When Death Comes Calling

When death calls
I hope it gets my voice mail
“I’m too busy now
Please leave a message after the beep.”

When death comes around
I hope I am nowhere to be found
Dancing somewhere or at the very least
Fast asleep

When death comes knocking
I don’t expect to hear the knock
The shock of loud music and crude behavior
Will drown out any other sound

But, in truth,
I do not expect that death can be delayed
But it won’t find me trembling and dismayed
No, not by half

When death comes to collect what’s due
And mark my final bill as paid
It will find me in the middle of a laugh
And take me smiling and unafraid
