Lost Souls!

Lugubrious lost souls;
...And so they fell
In the marathon of salvation.
On your tracks,
Set?
False alarm
And off they went
Zinging to the palace of complicated cataclysm
With a missing motive.
Halt! halt!!
The umpire wailed
But none listened
As they ran implacably to quagmire;
Thus, marking
The fount of another kismet.
Then came the flurry
Dishing out drops of despair
In their frazzle;
The impetus was gone
So was their reasoning radar.
Discretion was despoiled
As dismay and tizzy became copious
In their ribs and veins.
Neither were their bodies lost,
But their minds could not be found;
Their odyssey became hollow
And vain was faith to them,
For their randy hearts had been shattered.
Though, consumed by malady of necrosis,
Forward seemed impossible
And backwards
Gained no slot in their options bid.
Forlorn by providence,
So they thought;
Nothing really changed
But for placement of priorities.
To them,
The exodus to perdition had begun;
Hope is dead,
Faith is gone,
And luck can't be found,
But fate always has its ways.
Choices have been born,
Decisions have been made,
Though atonement may lie ahead,
For now,
They are lugubrious lost souls.
...And so they fell
In the marathon of salvation,
But yours is to learn
The path to take
And the trail to follow;
Life or death?
